Why am I not getting notifications (email)
Notifications are emailed to you when an event is created at a locaion that
is near one of your favourite places. But for this to happen, the following
must also be true:
- The event activity must match your favourite activity
- The event location must be within 500m of your favourite location
- The matching favourite location must have the "Watch" checked (enabled).
Why use this site
It is not always too easy to find people who like to do the same sports as
you. Particularly if you have moved to a new area, just started a new sport,
have no friends, the friends you have don't do the same activites as you.
- You can find someone to do your sport with
- You can save cost by traveling together*
- You have someone to do the activity with when you arrive
- You meet people who have local knowledge of where you are going, or get a change to share your knowledge with others.
- You find out about upcomming events or gatherings for activities that interest you.
- You get to meet people who share the same interests as you. (However, this is not a dating service)
- You get to save the world, reducing green house gases*
- You can help each other if you break down or get into trouble
- You can share the driving if you get tired or have a few drinks on the way home*
* Carpooling only.
Who are we
We are not so much a "we" as an "I". My name is John McTainsh.
I am a New Zealander living in Australia and this site is currently running on
a my computer in my house. I like Rock climbing, Mountain biking and
Motorbike riding.
Special thanks to Nilla Palmer and Ross Wlodarczyk for help designing this site.
Why did I make this site
It all started with me trying to bum a lift to the Finke desert race,
3,000kms from where I lived. I started by building a carpooling site for
outdoor sports. The further I got into the development, I realised the
carpooling was not really the main problem. I needed to practice for the
race and had to find people to ride with during the week.
The more I got into it, I realised I would be gathering all the necessary
information to match peoples' activities and pair-up people to play sport
together.
The idea for the site started in Early May 2007 and the first release was 20 May 2007.
